The DFFE seeks to develop a green procurement strategy to stimulate supply and demand in construction and demolition (C&D) waste in the country. This is in support of the secondary materials economy and to fulfill the objectives of the National Waste Management Strategy (2020).

Through this, the intention is to unlock the potential economic value of the C&D waste sector. The focus of the strategy development is to create an enabling environment that will lead to C&D waste recycling projects. To do this, we intend to address impediments and enablers in the value chain, policy and regulation, standards, market awareness and funding.
